GEORGE%20MARTIN  To all who visit this website,

   I bid  you welcome!

Among other things, I am a writer with a particular interest in the American Civil War. My fascination with the period encompassing the War Between the States developed at an early age. As a child, I received a Marx Civil War play set as a Christmas present, and spent many a day fighting desperate battles with the plastic soldiers. Over the years that set disappeared piece by piece through loss or destruction until it suffered complete extinction. In my twenties I graduated to the “adult” version of battle recreation, joining a reenactment group. Dressing in wool uniforms and carrying a nine-pound musket on my shoulder gave me a taste, albeit a limited one, of the hardships endured by the soldiers of both sides in that terrible conflict.

If you came to this website during a name search, you most likely encountered several authors using variations. During a conversation with the publisher of my first book, the question came up as to how I would like my name on the cover. This led to an internet search to see if and how the name might already have been used. To my surprise, I found that there were many versions of “George Martin” utilized by various authors.  The most common was prolific author George R. R. Martin – how I wish I could emulate his success! There is also another George W. Martin who has written several books. The publisher suggested that I use my full name, and so that is how currently I represent myself on my covers.  Imagine my surprise when I later discovered that there was a “George Winston Martin” who published several outdoor cookbooks in   the 1940’s!

Again, welcome to my site – please browse around.  If you have any comments   or suggestions, I would love to hear from you via my “Contact” page.
